Alkaline vs. Acidic Which One Are You?
One of the hottest topics around besides being “Gluten Free” is alkalizing. We know that we should be eating a more fruits and veggies but what is the benefit of an alkaline diet and why?
First lets take a step back in time to Dr. Otto H. Warburg. He won the Nobel Prize in 1931 for determining the root cause of cancer. Did you read that right? Go back and read it again and let it sink in. He discovered the root cause of cancer in 1931. AMAZING. Do you want to know what it is? I bet you do!
Disease cannot live in an alkalized body. “Cancerous tissues are acidic". Cancer cannot survive in high levels of oxygen.
To Alkalize or not Alkalize? Now that’s a silly question
A little lesson here on your bodies PH. The PH scale goes from 0 to 14. O is pure acid and 14 is pure alkaline, 7 is neutral.
The human bodies blood stream is between 7.35 to 7.45 PH. This is a very small range. Our blood is just slightly alkaline. The body needs it to stay in this very tight range.
What happens when the blood becomes too acidic, disease starts to set in. If the blood acidity falls as little at to 7 PH it can be life threatening.
Foods That Cause Acidity
The foods we eat have the most impact on whether our bodies are alkaline or acidic. If you have the symptoms of acid reflux you may be eating too many acidic foods in your diet. The Standard American Diet S.A.D. is loaded with acid forming foods.

- Alcohol
- Soda
- Animal Proteins
- Peanuts
- Dairy Products
- Soda, Coffee
- Not enough green vegetables

- Green vegetables
- Kale
- Spinach
- Broccoli
- Sprouts
- Mushrooms
- Herbs & spices
- Citrus Fruits such as lemons & limes
- Watermelon
- Apples
- Fermented drinks like Kombucha or Kevita
- Fermented foods such as kimchee, sauerkraut
- High quality water
What Happens If We Are Too Acidic?
When our bodies become too acidic from poor nutrition, and lifestyle choices, disease can set in and take hold. Our body is always trying to be in a state of balance or homeostatis. It will try to correct the imblance by taking minerals from other parts of the body to neutralize the overload of acid. This is called acidosis. It will leach minerals out of your bones to do this. All the calcium supplements in the world will not help. This can also cause a lack of energy, contribute to depression and disease. What will help? Eating more alkalizing fruits and vegetables and decreasing the amount of acid forming foods. You should strive to always increase these types of foods in your diet.
Remember disease cannot take hold in an alkalized oxygenated body.
Other things that make our bodies acidic are stress, toxic chemicals in our air, on our skin and in our homes. Reducing our exposure to these things will help to reduce the toxic acidic burden our bodies are subjected to every day.
Some great things to do to help the body besides eating more alkalizing fruits and vegetables are adding a Green Drink to your daily diet. Drinking more water is a great way to help reduce acid in the body. If you drink just one can of soda you would need to drink up to 32 - 8 oz. glasses of water to neutralize that one can of soda! If you are drinking soda now go throw it away. Another think you can do is make sure you are eating mineral rich foods like dark green leafy veggies, also adding in a mineral rich supplement will help to balance the body.
It is never to late to start alkalizing your body. Try to strive for a diet that is close to 60% alkaline foods. Cut back on acidic foods and your body will start to recognize better health, you will sleep better, feel better and look better too!
